I got a bit of a different one today, a restaurant review! I want to tell you guys all about my new love, Assenheims 56, also known as “Colombian”.
During my 3 weeks in London, I’ve found some hidden gems, but nothing compares to this place. Located in canary wharf, Assenheims 56 is my happy place.
Before I tell you why I like it so much here are some key facts about Assenheims 56:
Founded in 1989
7 locations
Open basically all day (6:30 -20:30)
Average main price is 8£
15 simple recipes to choose from.
On their website they claim to sell south american inspired food, which by looking at their food it wouldn't seem that way. That said the south american flavour doesn’t come from the ingredients but from the people there.
The moment you walk in you are greeted by a team of 5 that very respectfully take your order while dealing with the prep (Chipotle style), but by the second time you walk in, they make it seem like they’ve known you all your life. From calling you bro to adding some extra rice, these guys definitely know how to make people smile.
When it comes to the food it can be described with one word: freshness. Having a really limited choice of ingredients to build their recipes from, they can focus on having a fresher stock that can cater all needs. My personal favourite has to be the large chicken box with rice, potatoes and veggies, drenched in their spicy hot pepper sauce and their homemade “Green SAuce”. The “Green SAuce” is so good that they actually started a kickstarter to commercialise it on its own.
If you’re feeling something to eat more on the go I would recommend their famous Colombian sandwich (hence the restaurant's nickname), usually made by a real Colombian worker, how much better can it get?
I can’t recommend this restaurant enough trust me, it will make your week.
Grading:
-Food 8/10
-Service 10/10
-Price 9/10
Total Score 9/10 +0.5 for world class experience: 9.5 out of 10, well done Assenheims 56!

Take care,
Fer.
