20th birthday Celebrations 🎉- First Half Marathon

Hey there, I've got some great news to share! Yesterday marked a special day for me—my 20th birthday—and I celebrated in a way that I never thought possible. I ran my first half marathon! Before you ask, no I wasn’t well prepared, I hadn't even run a 10k until last week! The journey was challenging, filled with moments of doubt and pain, but it was all worth it. Here's how it all went down:

It all started with a casual conversation on the street before a dip in the north sea. My friend Karim mentioned his plan to run an Ironman, and in a moment of spontaneity, I said that I would one day run a marathon. Little did I know, this would become the fuel for my birthday challenge.

The day before the challenge was absolutely horrible. My stomach wasn’t feeling great, my legs were tight from previous workouts and I kept on looking at different routes, thinking there was no way I could complete the challenge in less than 2:30h without stopping on the way. It was a full day of studying (I'm in the middle of taking my finals), stretching and trying to eat low fiber foods (nobody wants to get the trots).

After an early bedtime followed an early wake up we were on our way. The first 5k was a constant assessment of my body, leading to a surge of pessimism. However, from the 5th to the 12th kilometer, my running coach and flatmate E assured me my pace was excellent, and I found myself genuinely enjoying the experience. The turning point came at the 12k mark when my hip flexor started acting out. The pain persisted, but from the 15th kilometer till the finish line, I stayed laser-focused. I kept lying to myself, promising to stop at certain points, but I kept on pushing through.

Having E, an Ironman, by my side made a world of difference. His experience and encouragement were constant reminders that the seemingly impossible was indeed possible.

A significant shoutout to Dr. Machado and my parents for a summer surgery that completely cleared my sinuses. Breathing through my nose became a game-changer, especially during those long and cold stretches.

This run was not just for personal achievement; it was also in support of Movember. In honor of this cause, I invite you to contribute by donating. Every little bit helps, and your support means the world. https://movember.com/m/15169705?mc=1

As I reflect on the journey from 10k to half marathon, I can't help but feel a burst of gratitude. Grateful for the support, the challenges, and the lessons learned. Here's to embracing new challenges, defying limits, and looking forward to the next chapter—whatever it may bring.

Big announcements coming soon….
